Switchover to digital tv
The digital tv switchover is progressing throughout the country and will affect Copythorne residents in February/March next year. The process is being managed by Digital UK who will be sending a representative to the Parish Council meeting on Tuesday 11 October 2011 to provide more information. Residents are invited to attend the meeting to listen to the presentation and ask questions. The meeting is at 7 pm in Copythorne Parish Hall (rear extension).
The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee 2012
The Parish Council is making arrangements to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee next year. A community event will be held on Monday 4 June at Copythorne Parish Hall which hopefully will involve many of the local organisations in the parish. A small working party has been set up to organise the event and they will be contacting local groups shortly to invite participation.
Planning matters
A reminder that the Parish Council discusses all planning applications in the parish with a view to sending comments to the planning authority. Most of Copythorne is in the New Forest National Park albeit a small section in the north (Wigley, Ower and East Wellow) is still under the jurisdiction of New Forest District Council for planning control.
The Parish Council discusses applications twice a month (second and fourth Tuesdays) and residents are invited to submit comments, particularly on those applications likely to affect them.
The Council has also been concerned about the number of planning enforcement cases outstanding in the National Park. The situation has been discussed recently with the Enforcement Manager in the hope that ongoing cases can be pursued more rigorously.
The National Trust’s New Forest Plan
The National Trust is to hold a series of walks and a public discussion to outline the two-year management plan for its New Forest Commons. The Trust is the second largest landowner in the New Forest, with 2400 hectares on five different sites on the western and eastern edges.
The proposed works at Hale Purlieu, Bramshaw, Rockford, Ibsley and Hightown will be on the agenda at the National Trust Commons Open Public Meeting and AGM at Lyndhurst Community Centre on Friday 21 October at 6.30 pm. All members of the public are invited.
The walks programme will include one at Bramshaw Common on Monday 24 October, 4.30 – 5.30 pm (meet at Blackhill Car Park).
Community Buddy Scheme
A pilot Community Buddy scheme is being run throughout the Forest by Community First New Forest.
The scheme will be providing a volunteer buddy service for young people with additional needs or disability. A Community Buddy is a trained volunteer who will accompany a young person to participate in an activity they like. The volunteer buddy’s role is to act as a friend or mentor to enable the young person to enjoy the community more independently. No personal care is involved. There is a small charge to the families using the scheme.
Community First are keen to recruit volunteers of all ages and backgrounds. If you are interested in finding out more, please contact Jacqui Missen on 07508 401843 or email buddies@cfnf.org.uk
