June 2014 Bulletin

Flooding

A reminder that homeowners and businesses who suffered internal flooding in the recent events may be eligible for grant-aid under a Government-sponsored flood support scheme.

Grants of up to £5000 are available under the Repair and Renew Fund to pay for repairs and measures that will improve a property’s liability to withstand future flooding.  A council tax discount or business rate relief may also be available.

Further details are available on the New Forest District Council website at www.nfdc.gov.uk or contact the Parish Clerk for further information.

Surface water drainage – rebates

The annual  standing charge made by Southern Water includes an amount for surface water drainage.  Surface water is rainwater which runs off roofs and paved areas and includes such activities as car washing.

However, if your property does not connect to a public sewer and the surface water drains into a soakaway, you can claim a rebate for the current charging year onwards.

To make a claim, complete the online form at www.southernwater.co.uk/rebate or alternatively call 0845 279 0845 and record your details.  Once your claim has been agreed you will automatically receive the rebate each year, although it cannot be backdated.

Village Agent Scheme

As mentioned in previous newsletters, Hampshire County Council is in need of a Village Agent for Copythorne parish.  The scheme helps to provide support for older people in the community by providing information about local services and facilities and offering practical help.

The post is suitable for someone able to offer between 4 and 6 hours a week, with volunteers needing to be owner drivers for which expenses are paid.  If you are able to help, please contact the Parish Clerk for more information.

Parish Council grants

The Parish Council has a modest budget to help local organisations with small projects.  The closing date for the next round of applications is 24 June, with requests being considered on 8 July 2014.  For further details of the scheme and an application form, please visit the Council’s website at www.copythorne.org.uk or contact the Parish Clerk.

Copythorne Parish Hall Wi-FI

A reminder that Copythorne Parish Council has installed Wi-Fi in the parish hall which is available to local residents.  If you are a regular, bona fide user of the parish hall and have a use for wi-fi facilities, contact the Parish Clerk for a password to access the facility.

Security mark your tools

Tradesmen are urged to security mark valuable tools to discourage thieves from selling them on.  The Safer New Forest Partnership advises tool owners to mark their property with a postcode and house number, which will also enable police to return stolen goods if recovered.
Security marking kits are available which mark valuables with a unique code.

Car and truck drivers in particular are advised to property mark their work tools and secure their vehicles properly to deter thieves.  Anybody noticing people acting suspiciously near a vehicle should report it to the police on 101, or 999 in an emergency.

A date for your diary

The Copythorne Community Group is organising another Fun Day at Copythorne Parish Hall on Sunday 7 September 2014.  There will be entertainment for all the family, with free entrance and parking.  Look out for further details nearer the date.
