Wireless Broadband at the Parish Hall

A reminder of the Parish Council's offer to regular users of Copythorne Parish Hall to take advantage of wireless broadband facilities at the Hall. This new service has recently been installed by the Parish Council to support its own planning consultation function but it can be made available to other bone fide Hall users on request.

Please contact the Clerk to the Council for further information.

Parish Council website

The Parish Council has now asked a company entitled TLC to design and set up a new web site. This will replace the one presently hosted by New Forest District Council and will offer facilities for local organisations to have their own linked web pages. When matters have progressed a little further the Council will be contacting local groups to see if they are interested in having space on the site.

Broken glass safety alert

Householders in the New Forest are being urged to take extra care when disposing of broken glass or ceramics in their refuse sacks. The alert from the District Council follows an incident when a waste operative was badly cut by sharp shards of glass which had been put into a black sack for the council's kerbside refuse collection.

Residents are asked to wrap up any broken glass or ceramics, such as smashed plates or mugs, in thick newspaper and secure the parcel before placing it into a refuse sack. If possible, a note should be taped to the outside of the sack marked 'Broken Glass' or similar.

Glass bottles and jars should always be disposed of at a local bottle bank. There is a separate sharps collection service for people with medical conditions who wish to dispose of syringes and other hazardous objects. These must be disposed of in a clinical sharps box, provided free of charge to NHS patients by NFDC.

Cash boost for farmers, foresters and local producers

Vital cash injections of up to £50,000 are on offer to local producers, foresters and farmers looking to boost their businesses. A new fund, administered by the District Council, has been open for grant applications since January 2009 and has already supported a range of land-based rural business and community projects. However, the programme is undersubscribed in certain areas and further applications are therefore being encouraged from:

* Local producers and forestry contractors who require equipment to expand or improve their businesses
* Farmers who wish to 'add value' to their own produce
* Forestry businesses requiring equipment for forestry activities, up to and including harvesting.

If successful, grant funding between £2,000 and £50,000 is available, with one-to-one support offered throughout the application process.

Further information is available on the NFDC website at www.newforestleader.org.uk or from Sally Igra, Programme Manager on 023 8028 5368.

Local Policing

Unfortunately, the local crime figures for the Copythorne area for September aren't available at the moment but will be published as soon as they are to hand.

The Parish Council

The Council meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 7 pm in the Copythorne Parish Hall (rear extension). Members of the public are very welcome to attend the meetings and speak on any matter of concern during the first five minutes of the meeting.

Local planning applications are discussed at both full Council and Planning meetings, and the Council welcomes the views of both applicants and neighbours to help formulate a response to the planning authority.

The dates of the next few meetings are:

Tuesday 10 November 2009 Planning

Tuesday 24 November 2009 Council

Tuesday 8 December 2009 Planning

Please note that there is no full Council meeting in December.

The full calendar of meetings for 2009/10 is on the parish website.
