Safety First
The Community Projects Team at Hampshire County Council operates a series of electric blanket safety checks throughout Hampshire. This is a free service and residents are encouraged to make an appointment and take their blanket to a central location for testing.
Like all electrical equipment, electric blankets have a limited life and have faults which are not always obvious. In 2009, the Team failed 60% of all blankets inspected. A voucher giving a discount on a replacement blanket is available for all failures.
The telephone number for appointments or advice is 01962 833358
M27 Sound Barriers
Residents of Cadnam have been waiting patiently for some time for the Highways Agency to erect sound barriers alongside the M27 to reduce the impact of traffic noise. The acoustic barriers were planned for the section between junctions 1 and 2 and installation should have taken place this year.
However, the Highways Agency has told Dr Julian Lewis MP that the scheme has become a victim of proposed spending cuts. The project had already been classified as low priority but the budget economies have reduced its chances of implementation even further. All planned highways expenditure is being reviewed shortly and an announcement will be made in the autumn.
Launch of New Forest Citizens Advice Bureau
The popular Citizens Advice Bureau in the New Forest has been restructured and was officially launched as one organisation last month. The New Forest CAB, incorporating the Fordingbridge, Hythe, Lymington, New Milton, Ringwood and Totton offices received the official seal of approval at a Beaulieu reception on 16 July.
The charity has also welcomed its new patron, Mrs Ailsa Montagu. The chief executive officer, Peter Wales, is keen to assure local people that the new organisation will continue to work hard within the forest’s many communities as well as improving access to advice and support.
