The Safer New Forest Partnership is warning local householders to be on their guard against bogus callers asking for their bank details.
Residents have recently received phone calls claiming that as their payment records for paying the Council Tax over the past few years has been impeccable, the Government has agreed to make an immediate refund.
The residents are then asked to provide bank details to enable a BACS transfer to be made.
Hampshire Trading Standards is warning that everyone to be on their guard and not to supply or confirm any personal, banking or card details to anyone who makes contact.
The Partnership also urges local people to be wary of all cold callers, either over the telephone or on the doorstep.
If you have any concerns regarding this information or similar cold calling matters, please do not hesitate to contact our Quick Response Team on 01962 833666.
