1. PARISH COUNCIL WEBSITE

The Group reviewed the new website prepared by TLC (www.copythorne.org.uk) and confirmed its general satisfaction with the design and layout.

As with all websites, Copythorne’s site would evolve over time.  However, members made the following suggestions for alterations/updates in the shorter term:

  • banner photograph, i.e. front page image, to be changed quarterly, according to season (TLC should be able to do this from their own library)

  • explore other possible Copythorne images (the Images of England site might have suitable material re listed buildings)

  • display the names of composite villages (Bartley, Cadnam, Newbridge etc) next to the parish logo

  • incorporate map showing location of Copythorne in the New Forest

  • provide information on:
    • local clubs/organisations (either links to web sites or contact information) (article to be published in Stanleys Own + Clerk to contact clubs for information)
    • local events (use calendar published in Stanleys Own?)
    • local medical facilities
    • location of Copythorne Parish Hall
    • explore possible links to individual planning applications on the Planning page
    • consider footpaths feature (say one footpath a month, with photos)
    • incorporate a disclaimer (absolving the Council from liability for content of the website or other linked pages).  On this basis, local clubs/organisations would be responsible for the content of their own web pages

The Group also discussed whether local businesses could advertise on the site.  Members felt this was inappropriate for a local council site and might be difficult to manage.  However, it would be useful to:

  • include details of the local “trusted traders” publication

  • find a way to include information on eating places and b&b establishments etc without showing favouritism/discrimination
